Chiuaua
A chiuaua (chihuahua) can sometimes be found in purebreed rescues, but it is usually an adult dog.
These dogs are susceptible to fractures, dislocations and head injuries; therefore, they require very careful handling. They are also sensitive to cold and may suffer from respiratory disorders and wheezing breath. Rheumatism is also common in this breed. Some lines are prone to patella luxation, epilepsy, hypoglycemia, eye problems and hip dysplasia. Purebred dogs are usually healthy and long-lived, their life span averaging 15-17 years. So called ‘teacup’ dogs are more susceptible to various diseases and have much shorter life spans. Therefore, breeders claiming to have the rare ‘miniature’ type of the breed must be avoided, because this type does not exist.
