Chihuahuas Breeders Pictures - Breed Description

Chihuahuas come in two varieties - short-coated and long-coated. They occur in different colors, which include fawn, tan, blonde, black, blue, brindle and broken colors. In America, these two varieties often interbreed, and litters can contain both short-coats and long-coats. However, in Great Britain there is a strict differentiation between these two species. Chihuahuas weigh between 2 to 6 pounds. Dogs over 6 pounds necessitate exclusion from the ring. Chihuahuas have a life span of approximately 13-15 years.

Chihuahuas have compact bodies, and despite their miniature size, they are deep chested and their front paws are set widely apart, which gives them sturdy and powerful appearance. Chihuahuas have big apple-shaped heads with big ears at a 45-degree angle and rounded eyes. The eyes are set widely apart. They are usually dark, although blonde species can feature lighter eyes. The back is leveled and straight. The tail curves in a loop or a sickle and its tip touches the back.

Chihuahuas' self-appraisal is quite out of proportion to their size. These little dogs have a very saucy temper, and they are very protective around their owners. Chihuahuas are wary of strangers and other dogs, although they can get on well with other dogs, if socialized properly from early age. It is interesting to note, that Chihuahuas are more likely to make friends with dogs of their own breed. These dogs have rather sharp teeth, and they use them for protection. Chihuahuas often snap at teasing children.

These dogs are energetic, courageous and loving. They never leave their owners alone, and follow them around wherever they go. They are lap dogs, and are fond of licking their owners' faces. Chihuahuas are very proud and intelligent, and in terms of love and affection, they give their best and expect the best.
